Description: AIRprint™ is a concept developed by Advanced Optical Systems, Inc. (AOS) for rapid, long range collection of fingerprints. The ability to rapidly collect fingerprints at a standoff distance dramatically improves the identification options for security personnel. Fingerprint collection at range provides increased safety and faster print collection. The sensor collects fingerprints from a distance greater than one and a half meters at more than 500 pixels per inch. This sensor allows fingerprinting to have the same ease-of-use as facial recognition, without giving up the enormous available databases and wide acceptance of fingerprint. Concept: The initial implementation of AIRprint™ calls for an individual to stop briefly before an access point and hold up a hand. The sensor detects the hand and locates the finger tip(s). The sensor initially only operates on individual fingertips. The collected imagery is processed to output fingerprints for storage or matching to existing databases. The collection and processing time is under one second. The time required to match the collected fingerprint to a database may be longer. Finally, access is granted or denied based on the match results.
