Low-Cost Seeker |
| Novel
design and fabrication techniques are being incorporated into a prototype
seeker currently being built at AOS. The goal of this program is to
dramatically reduce the cost of the opto-mechanical portions of a
missile seeker. |

| ODM
Optical Disk Modulator |
| AOS
has built an optical correlator that uses optical Compact Disk (CD)
as the filter modulator. Two-dimensional spatial filters are written
on the disk by a commercially available CD writer using a custom software
driver. |

Measurement of Attitude by Power Spectrum |
| White
Sands Missile Range needed a way to measure missile attitude (pitch
and yaw) in real time during test flights. The system that AOS built
and delivered accomplishes this by using the optical power spectrum
of two to four video images of the missile. |

| ODIN
Optical
DIgital Neural network |
ODIN
is the king of gods in Norse mythology. He is thought of as an old
man, the wisest of the gods. On each shoulder he had a raven which
he sent out daily to bring back news.
ODIN
is an Aided Target Recognition (ATR) system, based on the optical
processing technique known as Diffraction Pattern Sampling (DPS).
AOS has built and tested a single-channel, which can process NTSC
video imagery.
More detailed information on ODIN.

| ALORE
Aircraft Landing by Optical Recognition Experiment |
| AOS
constructed a real-time optical correlation ATR system to identify
and track aircraft. The ALORE system was integrated with the Navy's
experimental Electro-Optical Tracking System (EOTS) and installed
on the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). |

| THOR
Terminal Homing by Optical Recognition |
THOR,
god of Thunder in Norse mythology, is famed for his hammer which
always returns to his hand after being hurled at his enemy. He is
the son of ODIN.
AOS
investigated the application of optical correlation to Air Force
weapons systems such as the GBU-15 TV guided bomb . We showed that
THOR allows for the creation of autonomous standoff munitions with
enhanced firepower and increased survivability.
